Each time a major awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a clamor for the addition additional classifications to recognize unsung work and delight the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.
For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
The Representation Problem
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything during that awards season
- A different innovative game was excluded that year
- A beloved organization game got ignored recently
- Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for many years.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge game development, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
